Fortune magazine is reporting that Carlos Slim has surpassed Bill Gates as the World's Richest Man.
He is worth $59 Billion after improving his net worth by $12 billion alone this year. Slim owns Latin America's largest cell phone company America Movil. It is also reported that his companies alone make up one third of the entire Mexican stock market.
It is at least a win for diversity. This has to be one of the first times in recent history that the richest person in the world isn't a white male.
Slim claims to do a lot of good by creating jobs and wealth with his companies. He also is financing the construction of 100 new schools in Mexico at the cost of $300 million. If only he could fix the drinking water.
