Straight from the Headlines: Animals Attack!!

Boy Dies in Dragon Attack

Yummy!

On the misty isle of Komodo, near Indonesia a boy was consumed by the fiery breath of a Dragon.

Seriously an 8 yr old boy was clawed, bitten and shook violently by the monster while mending fishing nets with his Uncle and some friends. Apparently it was a Komodo Dragon, and the group of fishermen were surprised by the attack since they were on Komodo Island.

Of course a 10 ft lizard that can run at 15 mph is nothing to mock. If you ever manage to make it to an island that is known to contain giant lizards that go by the name of "dragon" please don't leave your kids unsupervised. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/worldnews.html?in_article_id=459746&in_page_id=1811

Komodo dragons hunt much like a snake. They stick out their tongues and taste the air to locate potential prey. It is too bad that they don't use their keen sense of hearing to find dinner or they might be easier to control.

Leopards in India Caught Trying to Answer Cell Phone

Modern advances in technology know no boundaries. Forest "Guards" in India have discovered an ingenious method of capturing Leopards who have mistakenly wandered into human settlements. Despite the prescence of radio equipment that serves the same purpose being available 50 years ago, these guards have downloaded cell phone ringtones that imitate the sounds a cow or a goat might make. Once a rogue Leopard has been identified they place the cell phone in a special cage and then they call the phone repeatedly until feline curiosity takes over. http://scienceblogs.com/grrlscientist/2007/06/marauding_leopards_captured_tr.php

Web 2.0, Shoelaces, Inane Technobabble FTW!!

What is Web 2.0?

Seriously, if you know please tell us, leave a comment because we are stumped.

As far a we can tell 2.0 means that every site should have "tags" which are basically keywords but they are made to look funky by changing the size of the text. Oooohhhh, misshappen selection of words. Whether we actually know anything about what 2.0 means or are just making jokes, it seems that people are sharing a lot more on the internet. Websites are turning to visitor created and visitor sumitted content more now than ever before.

Sidenote: If I could have you readers do the job of writing these articles I would. Web 2.0 might turn out to mean Web LazyPointOh.

I recently found this nice little web directory containing tons of new sites that all claim to be operating under the 2.0 guise. Just go to the site and you will want to pick a "tag" from the select tag button in the middle on the top, and you are off. It is a great place to go on your explorations into the 2.0 version of the web: http://www.go2web20.net/

In our relentless search for new and fascinating content we recently found an entire community of users on the Newsvine.com site that are focused on useless news. They find a purpose in collecting and sharing news articles that are amusing, absurd, and by no means relevant to your life. They call themselves the "Useless Article Addicts." And can be found here: http://uaa.newsvine.com/

I was reading their content earlier and it seemed to be dominated by Paris Hilton news. I can't really argue about the uselessness of such news. Then I just went back now and they have a story about someone who killed a rubber ducky? As this is a user created community it could also be seen as 2.0. Bonus points for staying on topic.

For all the cool kids out there who are bored to death by the technobabble we so boldly wield, these next links are for you. Now you can hone your Paper - Rock - Scissors skills with professional advice:

This next blog is not just another list of TV shows that steam over the net. This site will actually allow you to browse its giant list of shows and it will show you all the episodes available freely or downloadable for a fee via Amazon, ITunes and others. It has current shows like Lost and old shows like Pee Wee's Playhouse. If there is a TV episode that you haven't been able to find before on the net, try this place first.

I also found a nice little compilation of URLs that should be stored in everyones favorites. At least if you are a frequent user of chat programs and have annoying friends or co-workers who constantly interrupt your day. I honestly can't think of a better use for these domain names.

Nearly as good as Crack

They say crack is addictive, and I can see why

This game also has addictive qualities:

Lots of violence (die mummy skum), and power-ups. Good times.

Our record is level 11. Beat that, chumps.

Google StreetView or VoyeurView? It's Good for Spying On Bikini Girls

Google has done it again! Google StreetView, which lets you virtually travel through several major US cities (soon to be expanded) is their latest new toy. Guess what? You can spy on chicks using this great new technology. The image below was captured on the Stanford campus. Have fun spying!!

More Awesome Free Geek Stuff!!!

Here is a math blog that you can go to that will allow you to download free math programs!! Finally.

http://math-blog.com/2007/06/02/3-awesome-free-math-programs/

If that isn't enough to get you going try this game:

This one is a lot of fun and can be very challenging as the levels progress. It is kind of a cross between pool and shuffleboard.

http://www.shockwave.com/content/shuffle/sis/shuffle.swf

Also if you've ever wanted to hook up your PC with two monitors here is nice little video tutorial that shows you how to do it. It really is that easy.

http://www.pcworld.com/video/id,367-page,1-bid,4/video.html

If you aren't a math or computer geek then you may actually spread your seed across the earth. Or you may be a word geek. Here is really cool visual dictionary that you can use to find the relations between any word you type in and those that it is etymologically related to:
http://www.visuwords.com/

I typed "etymologically" in there and it showed nothing. But "etymology" was quite enlightening. So if you really are a word nerd you might need to dumb your search down to get the results you are after. At least it is a good alternative to Dictionary.com.

Also if you have 2.5 million to spend and you are a Cavaliers Basketball fan and a internet entrepreneur here is a nice little eBay auction that might get your attention:

Also it has come to this Blogs attention that the Canadian Dollar is approaching the US Dollar in value. While you may be a Canuck, I am not. I'm pretty sure the paradigm shift that would take place if the CAD upstaged the USD would be so violent the Western Hemisphere might never get over it. So, what does all this mean. If you are an American, start working harder. If you are a Canadian, please take a vacation. I hear Haiti is really nice.

Two New Tools for Better Web Surfing

Do you have trouble believing the things that you read on the internet? I do. I rarely will trust what I read on any one news site or I will have to interpret it given what I know about the aims of the site that reported it. I find it is best to get a broad view of one story by reading what multiple news sources have to say. A new tool for skeptics like us is now available.

Zoo.com has launched and it allows you to browse the web normally fielding results from Wikipedia, Yahoo! and Google. It also allows you to search for news topics and get results from sources like ABC, Fox, and Yahoo! News. http://www.zoo.com/

I tried this news feature on a fairly innocuous story about a new native Amazon tribe that chose to make first contact with larger civilization recently. I toggled to the News search and typed in “Amazon.” On a normal internet search I would likely have to wade through pages and pages of Amazon.com content. This search however worked perfectly, yielding 7 of the top 10 results with matching stories. This story is hardly a divisive one, with a political or national interest story this search would likely prove more useful in locating the competing opinions and viewpoints on the specific topic.

I am one of the lucky internet users whose online access isn’t monitored or restricted by my employer. I know a lot of my friends who have contacted me with requests to access their myspace pages or their fantasy teams while they are at work because their access is restricted.

Along the lines of sites with services like Peacefire.org that help to give you access to your favorite sites unhindered by filters or blocking software. Here is a new site that will allow you to surf the net privately, it blocks your IP address from any snoopers, and can get you access to sites at school or at work. Check it out:
